The stepdad narrates: his wife turns 50 on Saturday, and in his three years in the family, her daughter has not asked him for a single thing. Mom's voice asks why the two of them are being so weird out there, and the answer is that it is a surprise. Then the stepdad catches himself noticing his stepdaughter, and she says she has seen him watching. The episode ends on a plan for tomorrow, timed to a work shift that runs until six, and two words: "Guest room."
A volunteer with a reason
Episode 2 has the stepdaughter showing him something meant for Saturday and adding that this part is not for the guests. She hates parties, she admits; she signed up to plan this one for the week it put her in that house with him. She dares him to tell her to go back to her apartment. Then Mom comes home early, and the closing line warns of a big surprise headed her way, and not the party kind.
A dare said out loud, not shown
I rate it spice level 4, Fiery, based on the stepfamily dare at the center of the premise. The two free CandyShorts episodes do not cash it in: no nudity, no sex, just a flirtation spoken aloud and a plan for a guest room. Both leads are adults, and the captions underline it: she lives in her own apartment and volunteered to run a party for forty guests, and he has been married for three years to her mother, who turns 50 on Saturday. The captions name one person, Aunt Sarah. The stepdaughter and the stepdad are only ever called that, and Mom is Mom. Sarah is on the guest list, and the premise has her arrive when the plot is tangled.
